Call for Nominations - EarthCube Elections: May 2021

EarthCube seeks nominees for 3 governance roles.

  • Leadership Council At Large member (3 open positions)

  • Science and Engagement Team (SET) Representative to Leadership Council

  • Technology and Architecture Committee (TAC) Representative to Leadership Council


Nominations and Self-nominations will be accepted prior to the election. All nominations will be evaluated by the Nominations Committee prior to being placed on the ballot. Please send nominations to Lynne Schreiber <lbschreiber@ucsd.edu> by May 3, 2021 and include:

  • a brief biographical sketch

  • statement of intent

  • photo

Election dates - May 17-28, 2021

2 Year Terms* (June 1, 2021 - May 31, 2023)


(*) The EarthCube Office (ECO) is scheduled to conclude its cooperative agreement with NSF in July 2022. At this time it is uncertain how EarthCube governance will function post-ECO. Elected members will have the option at the end of ECO to continue service on the Leadership Council or terminate governance service.

  1. Leadership Council At Large member (3 positions)

Description: The Leadership Council is the elected voice of the EarthCube Community, setting the strategic direction for EarthCube and making decisions critical to the success of EarthCube. The Leadership Council will conduct its business at the EarthCube Annual Meeting, other face-to-face meetings, and a minimum of one virtual meeting per month.


Eligible voters include all EarthCube members. Earthcube members are those currently receiving the newsletter. If you are not on the newsletter list, please sign up here and become an active member. Voters will receive their ballots by email.


Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in bi-weekly leadership council meetings.

  • Perform other duties as necessary

  1. Science and Engagement Team (SET) Representative to Leadership Council

Description: The Science and Engagement Team (SET) is charged with maintaining a connection between the academic geoscience and technology communities in EarthCube, facilitating engagement among the EarthCube community and individual geoscientists, as well as, linking the activities of the wider-EarthCube effort to relevant organizations and initiatives. The mission of the EarthCube Science and Engagement Team is to engage with scientists and relevant organizations and to facilitate community-led advances in methodology and outcomes of geoscience research using digital tools and resources. The team proactively reaches out to the EarthCube community and beyond to encourage involvement in EarthCube and the utilization of the EarthCube cyberinfrastructure. The team ensures that end-user geoscientist needs, requirements, and aspirations are identified and prioritized. It also collaborates with existing cyber-initiatives, agencies, associations, and other efforts external to the NSF core constituency to achieve this mission.

Eligible voters for the SET /LC Rep election include EarthCube team members who attend the monthly Team meetings, serve on subcommittees, and/or are members of the listserv group. Voters will receive their ballots by email.


Responsibilities:

● Serve as a Team representative on the Leadership Council.

● Assist in establishing the Team meeting agenda in consultation with the SET co-Chair

and EarthCube staff.

● Perform other duties as necessary

  1. Technology and Architecture Committee (TAC) Representative to Leadership Council

Description: The Technology and Architecture Committee (TAC) is charged to oversee the technology and architecture development of EarthCube to assure that EarthCube infrastructure is community-driven, supports standards for interoperability, and incorporates advanced technologies to become a commonly used capability that supports scientists on their research efforts.

Eligible voters for the TAC /LC Rep election include EarthCube team members who attend the monthly committee meetings, serve on subcommittees, and/or are members of the listserv group. Voters will receive their ballots by email.


Responsibilities:

● Serve as a Committee representative on the Leadership Council.

● Assist in establishing the Team meeting agenda in consultation with the TAC co-Chair

and EarthCube staff.

● Perform other duties as necessary
